Cathedral Caverns State Park

Travel in the steps that Native Americans walked over 2,000 years ago in the massive cavern at Cathedral Caverns State Park. Choose from one of the beautiful camping sites for an over night stay, ensuring time for Gemstone mining after an impressive cavern tour. Leave with souvenirs, gifts and refreshments from the welcome center and memories to last a life time.

The cavern

The massive cavern in the park is a destination you do not want to miss. Imagine what is was like for the Native Americans to stand at the twenty feet tall and 128 feet wide entrance and step tentatively into the then undeveloped natural wonder. See for yourself why Disney chose it for their site for the film Tom and Huck, starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Brad Renfro. Purchased by the state in 1987, the once privately owned cave was reopened to the public in May, 2000. It was developed and made wheel chair accessible with eight foot wide concrete walkways. Enhanced by artificial lighting, visitors can easily see some of the most unique cave features ever known. Boasting the widest entrance of any commercial cave, it is also home to the largest column, 45 foot tall Goliath. Visit the Big Room, 792 feet long and 200 feet wide and marvel at the largest flow stone wall; it is 32 feet tall and 135 feet long. A three inch diameter stalagmite rises 25 feet up at a 45 degree angle from a rock formation. With a comfortable year round temperature of 60 degrees, the visit to the cavern is enjoyable and impressive.

Whether you choose to make it a camping destination or a scenic stop during your travels, Cathedral Caverns State Park is sure to make a vacation highlight for the whole family.
