Monte Sano State Park

Spanish for "Mountain of Health," Monte Sano State Park is a beautiful place for visitors to enjoy the wilderness of Alabama. Open to the public since the early 1900s, this park is situated on Monte Sano Mountain. Adults are charged $3 admission and children and seniors pay just $1 to enter. The park offers abundant activities for visitors of all ages.

Trails

The main attraction on Monte Sano is the network of trails. The North Plateau Loop is a favorite with visitors and offers a stunning view of the Tennessee Valley. Mountain Mist is an excellent trail for more serious hikers and mountain bikers. Here, visitors can see many forms of wildlife and plant life, while exercising caution to avoid an encounter with poisonous snakes such as rattlesnakes and copperheads.

For families

A playground recently built near the pavilion picnic area gives families with children a fine way to enjoy time at the park. The new equipment is safe and allows kids to experience the outdoors in their own way.

Camping at Monte Sano

This state park includes campgrounds that visitors are invited to utilize. Several water and electric sites are available, along with many sites without hookups. A maximum of four people can stay at a campsite, and there are 2 bathhouses within walking distance of the camping areas.

Whether you choose to stay the night or just for the day, a trip to Monte Sano State Park is sure to bring smiles. As one of Alabama's most unique state parks, Monte Sano offers challenging trails and scenic camping.
